Car Seat Advice

I need some car seat advice. We have a Britax Roundabout 55 for Joshua. The specifications say it is good up to 46 inches in height. However, Joshua is now 37 inches and is getting close to the one inch from the top of the car seat limit. I can't see how it will be possible for him to grow another 9 inches and still fit in this car seat (unless he only grows in his legs!). So I am thinking we will use our current car seat for Jonah and get another one for Joshua. Anyone have any recommendations? Has this happened to anyone else with this car seat. I would like to buy one car seat that will work until we can switch to a booster.

I am even taking that annoying "prove you are a person" thing off to make it easier to comment. Sorry I will have to put it back on though because I always get all kinds of crazy spam when I don't have it on.

We have the same problem with one of our foster girls. What I did was went to a store that has car seats on display and put her in them to see which one fit the best and aloud for growth. Our biggest problem is finding one that has enough length in straps.

This is the one that we found that left room for height and extra length in straps. It cost about $70 and is side impact tested

We have one of these but we don't have much room left in the straps but have lots of room in height.

These were recommended to us when we asked the same question about 2 weeks ago
We use radians...now called diono but they are spendy!! We use graco my ride 65 back home & they are supposed to have longer straps than most
We have the Graco Nautilus and have really loved it. It has a 5 point harness through 65 lbs, and then transitions to a booster for up to 100lbs

We have a graco nautilus and love it. My heavier one is very comfy in it. It also transitions to a seatbelt booster, then a backless booster.. We also have a britax advocate 70 ( I believe called a pavilion now) and it is also great. If you want to stick with the britax brand the britax frontier starts at 25 pounds and lets you 5 point harness till 85 pounds. It then converts to a booster till 120 pounds. It is a great carseat if u don't mind spending the money. It is on sale at albeebaby.com right now. Hope this helps some.

This will take him until he is 120 pounds. It is a bit pricey, but you won't need to buy him any other seat.

What you need to do is measure from the top of their shoulders to the ground they are sitting on, then you can see the specs on the different seats.

I started with a Britax Marathon. It was okay. Then I found Radian/Diono. (It used to be owned by Sunshine Kids and called a Radian, it got purchased by another company and they renamed it Diono, it is the same seat). I LOVE them. Now the Diono ones can also be used as a booster seat. http://www.albeebaby.com/diono-radian-r100-convertible-car-seat-dune.html (cheapest I've found it, this site ships FAST... I've now ordered 6 of them from them (I was in an accident which the car was totaled, as a testament to the seat, my kids had no issue and were not hurt at all; my husband liked the seats so much in my car, we got a 2nd set for him). I can fit 3 across my Saturn. Instillation is a bit of a pain but hey are easy to get in and out of for kids. They look less like a 'baby' car seat, yet they have some of the best rear facing ratings for small babies in a convertible seat. They make them in a 65 and 80 lbs versions, however my kids are skinny, so they will out height them before they out weight them by the time they hit 65 lbs. Diono and the Graco Natulis (which I also think is a good seat, just larger and more difficult for kids to get in/out of) have the highest top slot for straps.

car-seat.org is a great place to ask questions and to get answers from people who are both moms and car seat technicians.

I third the graco nautilus. Bought it for my triplets and love it! Is a 5 puts harness until 65 pounds then uses a seatbelt. The back can be taken off when you decide too. I felt safety and price fit the bill on this one! Got mine off amazon and didn't have to pay tax! It's been over three years and I'd buy them again.
